Who Do I Have To Kill To Get A Record Deal?
May 2, 2006
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chicago-based Cupcake Records announces the signing of rock band Escape From Earth to a recording contract and will be putting out the band’s new record “Who Do I Have To Kill?” “We have been following the Escape From Earth guys now for a number of years,” says Chris Sernel (President, Cupcake Records) “and we decided it was time to lock them into a deal.”

Yes, that's the same Chris Sernel who fronts the band Escape From Earth. “There’s never been a better time for us to put out our own record,” says Sernel. “The Internet allows us to reach every corner of the world from right here in my bedroom (i.e., Cupcake Corporate Headquarters). We can sell our own CDs, book our own tours and market the band exactly how we want. We maintain 100% control over everything. It’s really the perfect scenario.” Drummer Mike Prost continues, “We’ve been on MTV, we’ve been in Teen People Magazine, we played at the Miss USA Competition. We did all of this on our own. Why start relying on other people now?”

Escape From Earth will be releasing “Who Do I Have To Kill?” through Cupcake Records on May 23, 2006 (however, the album is available through the band’s website now). The band started working on the record in 2005 in Prost’s parents’ garage. “We just started writing and jamming and writing some more,” says guitarist Scott Dalheim. “We never had the intention of recording a full-length record. We started recording new songs and then eventually found ourselves with 10 songs we felt strongly about!”

The result is a collection of ultra-catchy alterna-pop songs that are hard hitting but not overpowering. “Some friends of mine who heard the record told me ‘Kill’ was a really great break-up album,” says songwriter Sernel. “I never thought of it that way, but there are certainly some of those elements in the songs. I really think there’s something for everyone on this record. And in most cases, I think people will enjoy listening to the record front-to-back.”

With a new label and a new record comes a new outlook on life for Escape From Earth. So why title the record “Who Do I Have To Kill?”

” ‘Kill’ is one our favorite songs on the record - it is a pop song that sums up our lives for the past few years,” says bassist Andy Ahn. “We grew tired of playing the game and spending all of our time worrying about what record labels and industry people thought about our band. Our music and our shows have always been about our fans and we are not about to change that. This record is for our friends and fans in the Escape From Earth family.”
